After reviewing the rules for swimming, my question was not answered. Can you wear water shoes in the water? If so is there a type/brand we can wear? Can you use Snorkels? Can I wear shoes from the swim to the transition area? I have a bad ankle and running bear feet could be a problem for me.
Being that we are in the season for Sting Ray mating is there anything done before the race to eliminate this problem? The urgent care has been full with people being stung by sting rays. When competing in the swim, shuffling your feet is not an option.
Also, the race starts early, so if you want to warm up before the race, is it safe to swim in the dark? It is recommended not to swim at dusk or dawn. |

I know snorkels are legal, but I don't know about water shoes. As far as the stingrays, unless you are the first wave in the water (elite), you can pretty much rest assured that everything has been chased out of the path of the swimmers.
Lots of people warm up before the start, although, typically, you warm up RIGHT before the waves start, so it should be light out there.
Good luck! |

We do not condone the wearing of water shoes but you can leave them at the exit of the swim and put them on for the run up to transition.
Sting Rays are usually cleared out by the first wave of swimmers, thats why the younger ages. First Aid is available at the transition and on the course. |
